A Calm Day in the Life: Lancaster Edition

It's a chill, calm day in Lancaster. I’m staying in the university accommodation, and I wake up around 9:30 AM. It’s cold outside, and there’s a soft, slow breeze. It’s the kind of morning that makes you want to stay wrapped up in your duvet forever. But I eventually get up, open the window, and see the mountains in the distance. The cold air flows in, carrying that fresh, clean scent. I sit in my chair for a couple of minutes, just watching the greenery, soaking it all in, and appreciating its beauty.
After a while, I freshen up and do some Wim Hof breathing. It’s cleaning day, and I’m in the zone. I start with my room, then move to the bathroom. And when I say clean, I mean deep clean. I vacuum every corner, wipe down the desk, and make everything spotless. While I’m at it, I throw my clothes in the wash. By the time I’m done cleaning, the laundry’s ready. I fold the fresh clothes, organise my wardrobe, and finally head to the shower. I had bought this nice room and bathroom freshener from the supermarket, which makes the whole place smell amazing. Jazz, French music, or lo-fi plays softly in the background the whole time. The vibe is perfect.
Once I’m ready, I get dressed and head to the coffee shop. I ordered a latte, and it happens to be my crush serving me today. We exchange a few words, and I can’t help but smile. I sit down with my coffee, no phone, no distractions, just me and the moment.
Two paths open from here.
Possibility One: I go back to my room, pack my bag, and head to the library for a study session. I love studying, and having someone I care about sitting beside me makes it even better. We study for a couple of hours, focused and content. Around 4:30 PM, we wrap up and head back to our rooms. I drop off my bag, change into something comfortable, and step outside for a smoke. There’s a cycle stand, a narrow road, and trees all around. I take a few slow puffs from my vape, watching the world move quietly. No social media, no noise, just me and my thoughts.
Possibility Two: I go back to my room, pack up, and head to the library again for a study session. But this time, I finished early. A friend and I decided to take a walk along the forest trail behind the university. It’s peaceful there. The rustling of leaves, the earthy smell, and the distant hum of the highway, cars passing by, one after another. For some reason, that sound calms me. We walk, talk, and just exist in that quiet rhythm. Around 4:30, we head back and grab a coffee. Back in my room, I change into comfortable clothes and come down for a smoke. The same place, the cycle stand, the road, the trees. Just me, my vape, and my thoughts.
Later, I call up a friend, and we decide to meet at Barker House. I love their peri peri fries and coffee. We sit on the sofa, chatting and gossiping, just unwinding. Before leaving, I grab a doughnut and some cookies, perfect for a late-night snack. It’s around 6 PM when I get back to my room. I study a bit more, then it’s dinner time. I head to my favourite pizza place, the same one where I had coffee in the morning. My crush is there again, and yeah, that smile returns instantly. I order my usual pizza, it’s delicious, authentic, and made by an Italian chef.
Just as I finish, I get a call from my love. She wants to hang out. I grab a bottle of vodka and head back to my room. Before she arrives, I tidy up a bit, making sure everything looks nice. When she comes over, we put on a movie, laugh, chat, cuddle, and eventually drift off to sleep together.
A simple day. Calm, clean, beautiful.
